Fans debate: South Carolina vs. Nebraska
12.30.11 - Posted By: Dsuddeth and SkullandBones and Husker Ed
The SEC's Gamecocks and the newest member of the Big Ten, Nebraska, square off in Florida in the Capital One Bowl. Here, we have a couple of Nebraska fans and a South Carolina fan give their answers to what will go down in Orlando...
Question 1: Why will South Carolina win?
SkullandBones: If I had to be complete honest I'd give the edge to SC, a fast defensive with an elusive QB have proven a bad combo for us this year.
Husker Ed: Speed kills. The speed on defense will limit Nebraska's potent offense.
Dsuddeth: USC will win,… if their defense can cause multiple turnovers. USC’s defense must put 8 in the box and shut down Nebraska’s run game. They must force (QB) Martinez to throw the ball…USC must force Nebraska in 3rd and long situations.
Back Like Cooked Crack!

After a hiatus, I am ready to give Fans25 and the 2011 football season my undivided attention. Cory Boyd, a former player of my beloved rival, the South Carolina Gamecocks, once so elonquently stated, "I'm back like cooked crack!" as he was speaking to the TV cameras following a touchdown reception. And while I have never even seen in real life the substance just mentioned, nor mean in any way to bring humor to a serious matter, I do find the quote quite entertaining.
No Sunshine

Tigers and Gamecocks fall to teams from the Sunshine State to close out 2010. Clemson and South Carolina had different types of seasons this year. USC won its first SEC division championship and was nationally ranked for most of the campaign. Clemson finished fifth in its division and never reached the rankings. The vibe around the Palmetto State was that Carolina had a good year, while Clemson had a bad year, and this was proven on the Death Valley field to the tune of a 29-7 Gamecock win in November. Yes, between the two, this year went to the boys from Columbia. But yesterday, these two teams were on equal footing as they both lost bowl games to teams from Florida.
Gamecocks Win the East

The South Carolina Gamecocks will play for their first SEC title. With a 36-14 win over Florida in The Swamp, USC will play for its first league crown in 18 years of league membership when they face the Tigers of Auburn in the Georgia Dome, December 4th. The Gamecocks won with convincing fashion, leaving little doubt that they are the team most worthy to face the West champ. This win - or rather this season - will long be remembered in Columbia as among the best ever. And there is more to come...
Steve Spurrier has been carried off of this field before, but it came from the opposite sideline. Returning to his alma mater and the school he coached to a national title in 1996,
It's Gameday!

Whether your favorite team is 8-0 or 0-8, there is still something magical about the day of the game. This week the question has to be about the number one team falling for the fourth straight week. Alabama (Oct 9th to South Carolina), Ohio State (Oct 16th to Wisconsin) and Oklahoma (Oct 23rd to Missouri) all held the number spot and all lost it on the road here in October of 2010. Now, Oregon faces USC down in Los Angeles. It's funny how quickly things change. Just a few years ago, Oregon would have been the underdog in this one!
Palmetto State Update

A week ago, it appeared as if the Gamecocks of South Carolina were on the road to a huge year. They had just defeated the number one team in the country, Alabama, putting themselves in great position to win the SEC East. A week ago, it appeared that Clemson might be on the edge of disaster, having lost at North Carolina to make it three Ls straight. The play-calling was being seriously questioned in Tiger Town. A week later, college football showed us why you have to take things one week at a time...
South Carolina. We will start with the Gamecocks, who seem primed for the big-time, but are having trouble making that last step in the East. Florida, Georgia and Tennessee - the three-headed monster of that division - each are having down years. This is a once-a-generation type of happening. This is the year, Gamecocks! But you have to go out and get it.
Week One Predictions

It's Gameday. As I type those two words, a huge exhale leaves my lungs. I have waited and waited and waited for this moment for months now - as we all have - and it is now here. Tonight will see my TV screen filled with images of Steve Spurrier and Williams Brice Stadium as the Gamecocks host Southern Mississippi. It will also be filled with images of Pittsburgh and Utah - a game featuring two top 25 teams. All in all, there are 18 games tonight between 6:30 and 11:00 EST, so this should be a great evening of college football!...Last year in the Pick'em Contest here on Fans25.com, I scored in at 71% for the season. Not bad, just three points behind our winner. But I have yet to win the event going into our fourth version, and I am out for blood! Here are my predictions for week one.
The Reason

Unless your favorite team is a member of the Southeastern Conference, chances are you are sick and tired of hearing about how great it is. Yes, there is certainly no shortage of media praise for the league that spans the Southern states. But it is mostly deserved. The SEC lays claim to the last four national championships, and seven of the last 14. On top of that, they bost a long list of out-of-conference wins over the last five years. Nothing lasts forever, but as of right now, this league is king. Here is the reason.
