Tigers Win ACC Championship
12.04.11 - Posted By: Brett Haynes - Greenville, SC
#20 Clemson 38, #5 Virginia Tech 10. In a roller-coaster of a season, the Tigers of Clemson are back on a roll. After playing dismal football the last four weeks, Clemson showed up in major fashion at Bank of America Stadium Saturday night, whipping the Hokies for the ACC crown. A trip to the Orange Bowl now awaits Clemson - their first appearance in that event in exactly 30 years. This championship is the Tigers' first ACC title in exactly 20 years.

UCLA and UNC seem to be whistling the same tune when it comes to football. While one school brings forth images of palm trees, California beaches and the whole West coast easy-going feel, the other school brings forth images of the Appalachian Mountains, Carolina beaches and Southern charm. They share many things in contrast, but unfortunately for the two of them they share something non-contrasting that they probably wish they didn't: a lack of real success in college football. Honestly though, I get the feeling that neither one of them cares all too much....
For Tigers, Time Is Now

I will go ahead and say it in this opening sentence: I picked VT to win this game. Yes, in our weekly contest of 15 games, I took the Hokies. But deep down, in the bottom of my heart, I feel I may have chosen unwisely. Gameday is here, and all of the sudden I am seeing everything in orange. No, not orange accompanied with maroon, but orange accompanied with purple. My mind is telling me to stick with my pick of the Hokies, but my heart is telling me this year's Clemson team is different. But, even if the Tigers are different, winning in Blacksburg is still a tough task...
The Mystery of NC State

An early season loss to Wake Forest is all too familiar for the Wolfpack and their fans. In Raleigh, NC exists a program bursting at the seems to be a college football factor. Year in and year out they sell out their stadium. Their fans are passionate, and the money seems to be there. But for whatever reason, NC State cannot seem to take the next step to be an ACC contender. This year, Coach Tom O'Brien's fifth, the Pack were ready again to go after big things. But after a super early division loss to a team they were supposed to beat, the Pack have already put themselves in a tough spot to win the ACC Atlantic - and it is only week three.

After the most dramatic offseason in recent memory, the college football season returns. Just like every year, most teams have high aspirations, though only two will ultimately have the honor of playing for the top spot. As we survey the landscape of new conference line-ups, resurgences of old powers, and look for the needle in the haystack that is this year’s dark horse, I present to you a list of teams with many differences but one thing in common – something to prove. For each team on this list, I want them to show me something, and prove once and for all they really belong in the upper echelon of college football.
2011 Preseason Top 25

Auburn will start the year on top as they are the defending champs. Just behind Auburn is their in-state rival, Alabama. LSU is also in the top five. In total, eight of the teams in my preseason top 25 reside in the Southeastern Conference. With the streak of national championships the SEC has going, it is hard not to pick them highly going into 2011...It is time for someone else to step up and take the crystal football! Who will it be?
1. Auburn Tigers - SEC West - Head Coach: Gene Chizik (22-5 at Auburn) - I start off every season by having the defending champion number one in my top 25. Until they lose, they are the champ. And it isn't like Auburn has a bunch of slouches on their 2011 version just because Cam Newton and Nick Fairley now play on Sunday. This school recruits in the top 10 annually, and new guys can't wait to show what they've got. Do not be the least bit surprised if Auburn challenges for the SEC West crown once again this season. Taking over for Newton is Barrett Trotter, a junior, who we know very little about. He has nine career passing attempts. But the Auburn
No Sunshine

Tigers and Gamecocks fall to teams from the Sunshine State to close out 2010. Clemson and South Carolina had different types of seasons this year. USC won its first SEC division championship and was nationally ranked for most of the campaign. Clemson finished fifth in its division and never reached the rankings. The vibe around the Palmetto State was that Carolina had a good year, while Clemson had a bad year, and this was proven on the Death Valley field to the tune of a 29-7 Gamecock win in November. Yes, between the two, this year went to the boys from Columbia. But yesterday, these two teams were on equal footing as they both lost bowl games to teams from Florida.
It's Oregon. It's Auburn. It's On!

Auburn to play Oregon for the national title. For the better half of the season now, these two teams have been ranked 1-2 in all of the major polls. In my mind, as well, these are the top two deserving teams in the nation. Finally - and I do mean finally - the BCS has presented us with a game that will make us feel like we have a true national champion. But even with this great matchup ahead, there is the potential for 2010 to have an eternal asterisk. The unbeaten TCU Horned Frogs will almost certainly get a crack at one of the big-boys, Wisconsin, in a BCS game of their own. Win that one, and the BCS is once again exposed....
