A Battle Looms on the Horizon

Two English players and two South Korean players are included with four Americans and a Dane as we enter the third round of play from Augusta, Georgia Saturday. Tom Watson and Fred Couples remain in contention, but have slipped just a hair off of the lead. Couples had the worst day of the leaders, dropping three shots with a round of 75. This tournament is one of the more competitive in recent memory, and this weekend we should all get ready to take in history.

As has to be noted, Tiger Woods is right in the thick of things. He was two under for the day on Friday, and sits at six under par - two shots off of the lead which is shared by Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood. Also, right there in the mix still is Phil Mickelson - probably the second most popular player in golf and owner of an unreal short game, which is critical at Augusta National. His manboobs and longhair aside, I am pulling for Phil to earn his third Masters crown.

Twenty-eight players are at even or better, and within eight shots of the lead. The weather for Saturday is expected to be nice, with the winds a bit calmer than Friday. Scoring was tougher today than on Thursday.

The wonderful thing about this year's Masters is that so many players are still involved. There is no way to predict just what will happen when you have over thirty guys capable of making a run at the Green Jacket. I get into this event pretty good every year, but more-so this year. I am as interested in Tiger's play as much as anyone, but it I also feel this is setting up to be one of the closest tournaments ever.
